So, Aunt Nuneh and I ended up being pretty busy today. Good thing she's such a laid back person! She was willing to let me message her the questions I had, and she messaged me right back! I love technology!
I was going to write some nice, flowery blog about Aunt Nuneh's, but I loved her answers via message format so much, I decided to just do this in Q&A style. I don't usually take the easy way out, but since the easy way out and the fun way are seemingly converging, I'm gonna run with it!
BoNYS: In five words or less, describe Aunt Nuneh's Apothecary.
AN: The natural, outdoors "farm"acy
BoNYS: What products do you make?
AN: I make teas (which I've used for various ailments, and always have worked wonderfully - BoNYS said that), salves, ointments, dried herbs for cooking, and oils. I also make candles if someone orders them.
BoNYS: Do you grow your own ingredients?
AN: I wild forage as much as I can from the woods, I grow what I can't forage, and what I can't find or grow, I order from a herbal company.
BoNYS: How did you get started doing this?
AN: My husband is a Bowyer (he makes bows, arrows, knives, teaches archery and survival skills). He often has a table at various events, and he asked me to make some teas and salves for the emergency kits he makes for outdoors-men. Aunt Nuneh's was born!
BoNYS: You went to school to learn about herbs, right? So, does that make you a herbologist? Or homeopath? And what's the difference?
AN: I'm self-taught about herbs, and I utilize as many peoples' "old wisdom" as possible to know more about the plants that grow around me. I did go to school for classical homeopathy, so I'm a homeopath. I don't have a practice, and usually just offer some pointers if people ask. The difference is that homeopaths use a diluted form of plants to treat acute and chronic diseases. Aunt Nuneh's Apothecary is strictly herbs, oils and bees-wax based products.
BoNYS: Why do you think it's important to use herbs/natural products?
AN: As a society, we put too many poisons in our body to supposedly "heal" us, but they often cause side effects, for which you have to take something else. Herbal medicines have been around much longer, and have proven to be effective without the side effects. It's just so much healthier and safer for the human body to go natural.
BoNYS: What is the one thing you really want people to know?
AN: My husband would sum up what I do in two words: Organic Witchcraft! Haha!
I guess everyone can use a little "good" witchcraft in their life, huh?
So, a big THANK YOU to all of you who have liked my page so far! Please feel free to share, comment, give suggestions for your friends'/families' small, home grown businesses and keeping LIKING!!!
The winner of the tea from Aunt Nuneh's Apothecary is Jennifer Hencke! Congratulations!
